iOS Notifications Trained Me to Ignore Them
iPhones show you red numbers for all of the things you haven't dealt with that it thinks you should look at. In our culture red is often used to warn of danger, and whenever I see those red badge numbers I feel wary. Because of that, I turned off all of those badges on the iPhone.
So all the effort app developers put into making those numbers appropriately timed and helpful? Completely wasted on me! I never see the number.
I've been using a Pixel phone lately, and their default color choice for notifications is blue. Much more pleasant. I haven't reflexively turned off all notification numbers, because it's not painful to see.
The newly announced Clicks Communicator shows some company finally paid attention to this, and they have a simple RGB light that you can set the color for to show you what, or who, is trying to get your attention.
